Number Diver is a number-and-pattern game for primary school, grade 1 through grade 6. Number bubbles float in the water and the child pops the right one. In grade 1, the target number is shown in Persian numerals at the top and the child finds the same number among bubbles written in Western numerals; from grade 2 on, a number sequence appears with one blank, and the child finds the missing number.

Number Diver — an educator's view

In first grade it's common for a child to read «۴۲» fluently in Persian numerals, then hesitate at the same number in Western numerals on a calculator or an elevator button. Number Diver builds exactly that bridge: the target number is shown in Persian numerals at the top, and the child finds its Western twin among the floating bubbles. From grade 2, the game moves on to skip-counting: a sequence with one gap, from counting by tens and backward by twos to multiplication-table multiples, million-scale patterns and decimal steps like three-tenths at a time.

Finding the hidden rule

Each round, the child sees four numbers from a sequence and has to work out the step size to fill the blank. This is inductive reasoning: reaching a rule from a few examples — a skill that pays off years later in patterns and algebra.

A multiplication table with meaning

In grade 3, multiples of three, four and six appear as forward counting, not a list to memorize. The child sees that 24 means six steps of four. When multiplication is tied to counting, a child who forgets a number still knows how to get back to it.

An eye on a moving target

The bubbles drift gently in the water, and the wrong options are placed deliberately close: one more, or one step ahead. The child has to track the right number carefully among these near-misses — good practice for selective attention, keeping focus on what matters.

A small nudge, not a scolding

If the child pops the wrong bubble, it just wobbles a little and gives another chance. If they still don't get it, the correct bubble reveals itself and a fresh round begins. So the last thing the child remembers from each round is the right answer.

A tip for parentsWhile waiting in line or walking to school, count backward with your child by fives or tens, and sometimes deliberately skip a number so they can catch it. For grade 1, car license plates are good practice for reading Western numerals.
