Quick & Sharp — an educator's view
Quick & Sharp is for when the child already understands a concept and now needs to use it smoothly and effortlessly. The question sits at the top, a colored bar beneath it drains slowly, and the child taps the correct answer among golden buttons. Grade 1 starts with "friends of five" and "friends of ten", grade 2 has doubling and halving, grade 3 and 4 bring multiplication and division tables, grade 5 has multiplying by ten and a hundred, and grade 6 has mental percentages like twenty-five and seventy-five percent.
Making number facts automatic
When a child knows "eight times seven" without thinking, their mind stays free for bigger problems. This fluency is called "automaticity". Short, frequent repetition of related questions is exactly what turns times tables and combinations of ten from shaky memorization into confident knowledge.
Accuracy alongside speed
The wrong answer buttons aren't random; they're deliberately chosen close to the right one, like 54 next to 56. The child learns to pair speed with a quick check. This ability to resist the first familiar-looking option is called "inhibitory control".
A gentle introduction to time
The time bar has no seconds on it — only its color changes. If time runs out, the game simply shows the right answer and moves to the next question. After each intense level, a breather level with more time follows. The child experiences time pressure in a safe, predictable setting.
Multiplication from the other side
In "which multiplication?" mode, the product is given, say "35 = ? × ?", and the child has to find the expression. Reversing the direction of thought — going from the answer back to the question — builds mental flexibility and makes the link between multiplication and division clearer to the child.
A tip for parentsTry the "friends of ten" game in the car: you say a number and the child instantly says its pair up to ten. In grade 6, work out shop-window discounts together as percentages. Five minutes every day beats one hour on the weekend.
